TUNIS, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied on Friday discussed with visiting French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin joint efforts to fight terrorism, extremism and illegal immigration.

"Tunisia was not immune to terrorist operations. It has witnessed a number of terrorist attacks targeting Tunisians and foreigners in recent years," Saied said in a Presidency's statement.

He also highlighted importance of tackling terrorism by "following a new approach based on the fight against the real causes of terrorism."

For his part, Darmanin called for the intensification of cooperation against terrorism and extremism at the bilateral and multilateral levels, noting France is not confronted with religions but with extremist ideologies. Enditem
