Shanghai develops reusable N95 mask
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2020-02-24 17:22

The outbreak of the COVID-19 has given impetus to the innovation capabilities of many industries. Using a novel type of nano material, a reusable N95 mask has been devised by an enterprise in Shanghai.

(The filter of the mask is made from a special nano material.)

The first of its kind in China, the surgical mask can withstand repeated disinfection treatment with boiled water, alcohol, and 84 disinfectant. What’s more, thanks to its stable performance, it can replace 20 common surgical masks. As such, the shortage of masks on the market can be significantly relieved.

The filter of the mask is made from a high-tech nano film with a thickness of less than three microns.

High breathability and imperviousness are the biggest features defining the mask. Over 95% of particles with a diameter of 75 nanometers can be filtered, meeting the standard of an N95 mask. It is reported that the diameter of the novel coronavirus is about 100 nanometers, while the diameter of PM2.5 particles are up to 2500 nanometers.

The invention is expected to be available on the market next week. The manufacturer of the mask, which specializes in making children’s clothes, devised protective masks for the prevention of SARS back in 2003. This time, it also wanted to make a contribution to fight against the COVID-19.
