Typhoon In-Fa expected to hit city
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2021-07-20 08:30

SHANGHAI is expected to be hit by this year’s sixth typhoon — In-Fa — on Thursday, according to the city’s meteorological bureau.

Typhoon In-Fa, which formed on Sunday, was 1,500 kilometers away from Shanghai at the time. Its wind force is expected to increase to a maximum between 144 and 172.8 kilometersper hour.

The city is expected to see showers and thunderstorms from Thursday.

Shortly after In-Fa formed, this year’s seventh typhoon Cempaka formed yesterday, and is located about 160 kilometers off the coast of Yangjiang in Guangdong Province.

The maximum wind force in Cempaka’s eye is rated as level eight, 64.8 kilometers per hour, according to the National Meteorological Center.

The center yesterday renewed a blue alert for typhoons. Cempaka is likely to hit the coastal areas between Shenzhen and Maoming in Guangdong tonight or linger at the sea near central and western Guangdong before moving northeastward.

From yesterday to today morning, gales are expected to hit the South China Sea and some coastal regions of Guangdong.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

The weather in Shanghai was cloudy yesterday with temperatures ranging from 27 to 34 degrees Celsius.

The mercury will remain between 27 and 33 degrees over the next four days.

Residents are advised to take umbrellas and raincoats when they go out during typhoon season.

The 12th solar term of traditional Chinese calendar dashu, or great heat, falls on Thursday, indicating the hottest period of summer.
