Shanghai’s taxi companies have put plans in place to ensure a smooth operation during this year’s China International Import Expo.

At a 15-day countdown ceremony on Tuesday at the National Convention and Exhibition Center, main venue for the event, 20 groups in the taxi industry and 76 taxi drivers were honoured for their contributions to safeguarding the service during this year’s fight against the coronavirus.

Based on the last two years’ experience, the cab service this year will mainly focus on on-site traffic flow and the new health control measures.

The city’s road transport office said three drop-off points will be located at the east, west and north sides of the venue, with a pickup site P6 and parking lot P21, together providing a daily taxi capacity of 4,000.

A total of 2,500 new-energy vehicles from city’s five cab companies will be on standby during the Expo.

During the expo, drivers are required to intensify health measures, including daily disinfection of vehicles, ventilation and wearing a mask while on duty.

Each taxi needs to be disinfected before entering the venue area after a ride is finished. A health package will also be placed in each taxi providing drivers with essentials such as sterilizers and thermometers.

Meanwhile, supervision has been carried out on illegal rides, refusal of passengers, detours, overcharging at transport hubs including airports, railway stations,LujiazuiandLongyangRoad in the Pudong New Area, People’s Square and theBund.
