Photos on display

A weeklong photo exhibition aimed at boosting the tourism of Shangri-La City in southwest China's Yunnan Province raised its curtain on Sunday in Shanghai.

During a tourism campaign launched in early September, nearly 1,000 photographers from Shanghai visited Shangri-La to capture its beautiful landscape and the unique folk customs of its ethnic minorities.

About 5,000 photos were submitted and 100 are on display at an exhibition at Skymall, a shopping mall in Minhang District.

They reveal the development of Shangri-La, the happy life of its people and the fruitful results of Shanghai's assistance to Shangri-La.

The tourism campaign is jointly hosted by the Shangri-La City Administration of Culture and Tourism and Shanghai Spring Tour.

Minhang District has paired with Shangri-La in a national program to share the expertise of China's most modern cities with some of the country's backward regions.

"It's expected that the exhibition will narrow the distance between Shanghai and Shangri-La, allowing Shanghai residents to experience the unique charms of Shangri-La," said Zhang Zhongliang, deputy director of the Minhang District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, also a judge of the event.

Shanghai Spring Tour said it will conduct themed activities such as photography, hiking and meditation to turn Shangri-La into a high-end tourist destination.
