Market watchdog acts quickly on complaints

Food, clothing, catering and accommodation were some of the fields which had the largest number of complaints during the first four days of the eight-day National Day holiday, Shanghai's market watchdog revealed on Sunday.

The city's 12315 consumer protection hotline received 6,472 complaints in total over the four days, according to the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation.

Among the 743 complaints concerning food, 160 were related tomooncakes, a traditional delicacy of the Mid-Autumn Festival falling on October 1 this year.

Failure to redeem vouchers, slow delivery and poor after-sales services drew the ire of consumers.

Another 422 were related to catering and accommodation with most about online booking disputes, cancellation or delay of online food delivery services and refunds.

A resident complained that he had reserved accommodation at a hotel in advance, however he was told it had no vacancy whentrying to check into the hotel on October 1, the administration said, without revealing details.

The hotline also drew 709 complaints over clothing and shoes, with after-sales services, slow delivery and quality drawing ire.

Internet services, transportation, entertainment and sports were also hotbeds of complaints.
