Visitors learn about the city's revolutionary past.

A special event merging concert and exhibition to reveal the city's revolutionary history as well as celebrate the upcoming National Day holiday was held in Xuhui District on Friday night as part of the 2020 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

Vinyl records of patriotic songs such as My Motherland and posters of classic films such as Spring River Flows East and Children of Troubled Times were displayed at the Qian Xuesen Library in the Xujiahuiyuan scenic area.

Also on display were the program of patriotic concerts from the 1950s and 60s.

An expert shares the story behind vinyl records.

Zhang Wei, a scholar of Shanghai city culture with the Shanghai Library, shared the stories behind songs.

Sand paintings replicating red cultural and tourism landmarks in Xuhui such as the old red villa on Hengshan Road that housed EMI (Electric & Musical Industries Ltd), once the cradle of Chinese musical history, and the Qian Xuesen Library, were also featured.

The event showcased the flourishing development of haipai (Shanghai-style) music, the national spirit and patriotism, and the inheritance of red culture and haipai culture of Xujiahuiyuan scenic area, the Xuhui District Bureau of Culture and Tourism said.
