The Chinese railway summer holiday transportation period kicked off on July 1. The Shanghai railways are expected to transport 23 million passengers in the 62 days from July 1 to August 31, with an average of nearly 371,000 per day, close to the level of the same period in 2019.

The passengers will be mainly students on vacation and tourists. The proportion of students and child travelers is expected to increase significantly.

To handle the increasing passenger flow, Shanghai railways have planned to add 23 pairs of trains, mainly destined for Urumqi, Yichang, Hefei, Xuzhou, and Bengbu.

Amid the current inspiring patriotism for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, a red tourism train from East Shanghai Railway Station bound for Jiaxing, which is famous for the "Red Boat" where the CPC's 1st National Congress was concluded, is expected to board lots of travelers.
