The opening ceremony for the 2nd Shanghai International Artwork Trade Month, themed “Global Art in Shanghai Time”, was held on the morning of October 16 at ART Tower in the West Bund, a new art landmark which was also inaugurated today. In line with the city’s strategy of promoting the ‘Shanghai Culture’ brand and building the city into an important international art trading center, the trade month this year aims to highlight “Shanghai time”, “Shanghai Landmark” and “Shanghai Platform” in the artwork trading arena and fully activate the elements of the complete industry chain.
The trade month began on October 15 and will last a month, during which more than 100 artwork exhibitions and trading eventswill be hosted across the city, including the pre-exhibition for the well-known Christie's Autumn Auctions Hong Kong. The trade month will also usher in such high-quality exhibitions and trade fairs as the Shanghai Folk Collection of Precious Cultural Relics Exhibition, the 7th West Bund Art & Design, the 8th ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair and the 13th Shanghai Biennale.
At the opening ceremony, ART Tower in the West Bund was officially put into use. The facility will be the new home to theShanghai International Artwork Trade Center, as well as the Shanghai West Bund Technologies and Art Innovation Laboratory. "Art Tower: Selected Artworks from the West Bund Bonded Warehouses", "The Beauty of the Snow zone: Exhibition of One Hundred Selected Thang-ga Artworks", and "Art Tower Meets ShangArt”, will be the first three exhibitions held at Art Tower and will be open for reservation during the trade month.
The Smart Artwork Display and Trading Platform was also launched on the same day. The system provides online registration and ‘one-stop’ trade services and aims to accelerate the service-based economic development of the city with “internet+ trade service”, helping to create an artwork trading market worth more than 10 million yuan ($1.4million).
