As Tongji University embraces newcomers on September 7, unmanned luggage carts can be seen busily carrying students’ heavy luggage to their dormitories.
Produced by the university and the Neolix autonomous driving vehicles company, the device was especially designed for freshmen to carry their hefty baggage since parents are not allowed to enter the campus this year due to the pandemic.
As soon as bags are lifted onto the cart at the campus entrance, it will automatically drive on the scheduled route to its set destination where students with a luggage tag pick up their respective bags.
It’s said that in the future, these smart vehicles will play other roles like risk warning and retail distribution in Tongji campus.
