Many industries around the globe have been hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic except for the snack industry. Data from many food companies in the first half of this year, shows that the sales of snacks has reaped considerable growth.

Want Want Group, a Taiwan food company that has traded with more than 60 countries and areas in the world, has achieved a 15% sales growth in its North and South American markets in the second quarter and a 10% increase in its Asia-Pacific market.

Cao Yongmei, head of the production and R&D department of Want Want, said that the company has been adopting strict management standards to upgrade production quality. Want Want goods that have several international certifications are thus favored by overseas customers that are confined at home amid the pandemic.

In mainland China, snack consumption is also on the rise and has become an essential part of the in-house economy.

Regarding this trend, Wang Junjie, dean of the Suning Retail Technology Research Institute, analyzed that the lockdown has boosted the sales of instant food, especially among those living alone. He also suggested that internet shopping influencers have been another catalyst that has fueled the consumption of famous snacks.
