Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, a lot of theaters and spaces for art performances, including Shanghai Culture Square, are trying to maximize their potential by creating open-air spaces for art performances for citizens. On Wednesday, six open-air venues opened officially under the guidance of the Shanghai Performance Trade Association.
“Outdoor stages can bring new opportunities to theaters while adhering to regular prevention,” said Zhang Jie, general manager of Shanghai Culture Square. It’s believed that this new open-air venue can not only break the traditional mode but also grow the culture and art market.
Shanghai Culture Square’s open-air space offers a large area, which can host concerts, environmental theatre and various types of boundary-spanning activities. During the 2020 Open Air Performance Season from July 11 to Aug 23, Shanghai Culture Square will host about 28 live performances. It’s reported that the Shanghai Children’s Art Theater, Union Church and Shanghai Concert Hall will also give open-air shows to the public.
Last year, the Shanghai Performance Trade Association first released the standard for Shanghai to develop new venues for performances. By the end of the first half of 2020, 60 new spaces for art performance have been set up in Shanghai.
