First e-sports vocational training course to take place in Shanghai
2020-08-04 17:05

The first e-sports vocational training course held by the Shanghai E-sports Association will be officially opened in September this year. As the first E-sports vocational training organized by an official institution in China, the course has high expectations withinsiders.

“We hope to cultivate more talent in this field through such vocational training open to the society, which will help relieve the current imbalance between demand and supply”, said Zhu Qinqin, secretary of the Shanghai E-sports Association.

Statistics have shown that nowadays the Chinese E-sports industry still lacks about 1 million qualified personnel, which has become aprioritized issue before further developmentcan take place. According to Zhu, it is necessary to provide such a vocational training since previous investigations showed that more qualified peoplewere needed to keep pace with the rapid development of the E-sports industry in Shanghai.

Since E-sports events have gained government support, more and more companies have emerged in the E-sports industry and there has been a growing demand for talent. Despite the fact that professionals from other fields are entering this field constantly, talent specialized in organizing competitions, telecommunications, talent managementand live streaming management are still in great demand. Moreover, although the global epidemic has resulted in more severe employment problems, it has not affectedthe E-sports industry a lot since the demand for e-sports has not subsided. Therefore, the establishment of the vocational training course would also be a responsible act to lower the unemployment rate.

The first E-sports vocational training course will invite many E-sports experts and professionals to teach all aspects of E-sports competitions. In other words, the course will focus more on practical application. The training willtake about half a year or lessand students would acquire skills like event organizing and software programming which makes it easier for them to find a job in this field.

Since 2017, several universities in China have set up majors in E-sports. The main difference between such education and the vocational training course lies in the teaching purpose and time.“Unlike universities, our training course aims to help students make achievementsin a relatively short time. For instance, when it comes to the procedures of making an E-sports event, we will invite experienced teachers in the field to share their real-life cases that enable students to have quick access to the top secrets in E-sports industry”, said Zhu.

There willbe about 30 students enrolled in the first vocational training course. All of them willreceive a certificate once they pass the examination. In the future, more training sessions willbe provided by the Shanghai E-sports Association to accelerate the pace of Shanghai becoming the capital of E-sports around the globe.
