16,834 parcels on November 12; 22,242 parcels on November 13; and the number is expected to surpass 25,000 on November 14. The data is from the courier services center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Minhang Campus. After the Singles’ Day shopping spree courier warehouses have become the epicenter of the logistical aftermath.

Eastday reporters went to the service center on November 13. During a class break, students swarmed into the area to pick up their parcels, lining up in front of the five windows. “This is the peak time for express delivery. The number of packages is nearly four times than that of normal time,” said a person in charge of the center.

Starting its operation in April, the center covers a floor area of 616 square meters and can handle around 6,000 parcels per day.

Deploying smart devices, the center enables students to pick up their packages more conveniently, just by scanning their student card for identification. The whole process takes only dozens of seconds.
