Graffiti graces the Cool Docks
By:Huang Ziling, Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2019-08-21 10:07

A fashionable art itinerant exhibition called Persue: Wet Paint is being held in Shanghai from August 13 at the Cool Docks in Huangpu District. After exhibiting in New York, Miami, Philadelphia and Tokyo, the American street fashion artist Dave Persue is bringing American street graffiti art to China.

The unique underground exhibition hall is a fantastical world, reproducing a mix of 80s New York subway graffiti and a cyberpunk futurism.

Although the space isn’t large, the exhibition has lots of content. On the second floor, a scaled down version of “ the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station”, the birthplace of the underground graffiti culture, strikes wonder among all the visitors. Moreover, the graffiti in a subway carriage replica which was personally sprayed by artists before it was showed to public is really a highlight of the exhibition.

The exhibition has invited over 30  global top visual artists to create graffiti, including Eric Haze, the first generation of the American graffiti artists in the 1970s, and the new generation of graffiti artists like Tristan Eaton and Wane, and China’s earliest graffiti team, Kwan Clan.
