Draft law seeks strict action against throwing objects from buildings
From:ChinaDaily   |  2019-08-22 10:15

A draft law states that throwing objects from buildings should be strictly prohibited across the country.

The draft section on torts of the civil code was submitted to the bimonthly session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, for review on Thursday morning.

Highlighting such a ban in the draft is in response to some recent cases in which people were hit by falling objects or those thrown from tall buildings.

In June, for example, a 10-year-old girl in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, was injured by objects thrown by an 8-year-old boy from a building, while a 20-story apartment window fell on the head of a 5-year-old boy who was on the way to kindergarten with his mother in Guangdong province.

The girl in Nanjing recovered, but the boy in Guangdong died.

The draft released on Thursday also says people responsible for building management should take security measures to prevent falling objects.
